If you have a calm dog that loves people consider taking the steps to get your pet certified!

Fowler, Bella, and Brody finished their pet therapy classes and are showing off their perfect stay. The two Goldendoodles are preparing for their pet therapy evaluation. Fowler, the brown and white cattle dog is now officially a certified pet therapy dog with Pets For Life. He visits a psychiatric facility for children that provides care 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Their facility is structured for children and adolescents who are experiencing acute crises affecting their ability to function safely in the community or a home setting. Their treatment team includes board-certified psychiatrists, nurses, therapists, social workers and youth care specialists. Fowler plays a huge roll in their recovery by playing fetch, running around with them, cuddling with them, giving them sweet doggy kisses and much much more. Animal therapy can help children and adults by lifting their spirits, decrease feelings of isolation, provide comfort, increase socialization, reduce boredom, decrease anxiety, reduce loneliness, help them overcome speech and emotional disorders and creates motivation to recover faster.

Pet therapy dogs provide emotional support to people in a lot of different situations. They can provide comfort in schools. The child can read to a dog to increase their reading skills and confidence. Therapy dogs provide services at hospitals, long-term care facilities, hospice, churches, and much more. In order to visit one of these places with your dog, they must know all the basic training skills, as well as being calm and enjoy being around all ages and types of people and not be scared of loud noises, wheelchairs, canes, crutches, and walkers. They must pass an evaluation with organizations such as Pets For Life to become certified therapy dog. They may start their training at any age but must be at least one year old before they can be evaluated. So if you have a calm dog that loves people please consider taking the steps to get your pet certified. It will be rewarding for you and your pet, but most importantly to the people that you will serve.
